ABOUT US
RoCultours/ Cultural Tourism Initiative (CTI)
is an academic
tour operator set up
by the European Cultural Centre, Bucharest in 1997. The
latter is a nonprofit academic association founded in 1990. It
gathers together members of the Romanian Academy, professors and
researchers, whether historians, geographers, sociologists, fine art
experts, architects, ethnographers whose projects foster the
intercultural dialogue and the transfer of knowledge and information
between the western world and Romania.
RoCultours/CTI’s
sightseeing tours for Bucharest and its
surroundings, alongside its guided trips to
areas of excellence, to the country's major cultural-tourist sites,
many of which are part of the UNESCO's World Heritage like
Bukovina's famous painted monasteries, Transylvania's well preserved
medieval towns, castles and peasant fortified churches, or
Maramures' wooden churches aim to highlight Romania as a
worth-visiting cultural tourist destination, where traditional
values meet the dynamic course and contradictions of our modern
world.
Over the last
16 years, and starting from the Romanians’ mind-set
and turbulent history, CTI tried to introduce its visitors, in a
synoptic manner and within the constraints of a limited time, to a
multitude of historical, cultural, and political aspects that make
this country, placed at the crossroads between the oriental and the
western worlds, so different and interesting to explore. While
training its own guides and constantly trying to improve the design
and substance of its study tours, CTI has issued a number of travel
booklets, brochures, leaflets, CD-ROMs, usually presented to its
visitors, which are meant to explain and interpret the country’s
rich built heritage alongside its treasures, artistic spirit, living
history, traditions, legends, folklore, all its diversified forms
of culture that tourism brings along.
Our efforts to
make a difference in the field of cultural tourism as applied to
Romania, our ambition to make this country’s saga readable and bring
it closer to the heart of curious and sensitive travellers, often
despite adverse conditions and local plagiarism, have been
acknowledged by authors of widely read guidebooks like the Lonely
Planet, Frommer’s, and, of course, by all our happy visitors who
would encourage us in this enterprise by expressing their thanks
either directly, or on travel forums like TripAdvisor.
Until the end of
2012, RoCultours/CTI's services have been used by over 2,500
visitors, whether individuals or small groups, come mainly from
Australia, USA, Canada, Japan, UK, Switzerland, France, Poland, the Netherlands,
Austria, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway.
